The San Jose State women’s golf team will have an opportunity to prove themselves against some of the nation’s best, facing three teams ranked 20th or better nationwide in this weekend’s NCAA Tournament Regional.
San Jose State was grouped with #11-seed Houston and #12-seed Louisville.
At the Mountain West Conference Championship, My Leander and Abegail Arevalo finished second and third individually, while the team finished third.
Their performance at Mission Hills earned the 10th seed in the Columbus Regional which will take place on OSU Golf Club-Scarlet Course.
According to the Nationwide Tour, the course has three holes (11, 14 and 15) in the top 50 hardest holes in the country.
Overall, the 7,455 yard course ranks third hardest out of 34 with 65 sand bunkers and five water hazards.
Other teams competing in Columbus include No. 4 Florida State, No.13 South Carolina and No. 20 Texas A&M among other qualifiers.
Even with the tough opponents, the team can travel with confidence after senior My Leander was named Mountain West Women’s Golfer of the Year.
Leander is ranked 23rd in the country and is up against three other golfers in the top 25.
Coach John Dormann was also awarded the Mountain West Women’s Golf Coach of the Year.
From May 8-10, a total of 384 challengers will be narrowed down to 132 that will compete for the NCAA Championship
