SJSU women’s volleyball has now completed its non-conference play at the USF Challenge and head into conference play with a 9-4 record.

Starting the tournament with a loss did not shake the Spartans as they were led by junior Blaire Fleming, who had 51 kills over the weekend.

Match 1

The Spartans did not shake the tournament hosts USF (6-6) as they lost the match after only winning one set.

Fleming led the Spartans with 16 kills in the match and even the set-winner of the second set, 25-23.

The women in blue and gold also were led by senior Letizia Cammillucci who tied Fleming at 16 kills.

The combined 32 points were not enough to stop USF.

Match 2

SJSU came back on day two of the tournament with a vengeance as it faced Cal State Northridge (2-9) for the second time this season.

The Spartans swept the Matadors with the scores of 28-26, 25-23 and 25-23.

Taking control of the match was Fleming again finishing with 13 kills.

Assisting in taking down CSUN was senior Jiana Lawson who had seven blocks to shut down the southern Calif. competitors.

Match 3

SJSU faced the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (6-7) for the last day of the tournament.

Despite allowing the Vaqueros to take a 2-1 lead the Spartans came back to win the final two sets and win the match 3-2.

Fleming once again led her team with 21 kills in this match. Behind her was Cammillucci with 12 and junior Brooke Bryant with 10.

The Spartans will now head into conference play by traveling to the Sin City and will be taking on the UNLV Rebels on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
