Saint Mary’s struggled to hold down San Jose State as two players had the best game of their careers, paving the way for a 3-1 win in Moraga.
SJSU women’s volleyball (7-3, 0-0 MW) has been on the road since the month started and the team has seen continued success.
The Spartans beat the Gaels 3-1. The win was icing on the cake for the two players who set career highs.
Only improving their record on the road and winning on both sides of the Mississippi. Winning in tournaments here in California and North Carolina.
Their last home was on Aug. 27, hosting the SJSU/Santa Clara tournament that saw the Spartans drop their final match to Santa Clara.
SJSU nearly swept Saint Mary’s after winning the first two sets 25-22 and 25-19.
Redshirt junior Blaire Fleming had the best game of her career so far. With 22 kills on the day, this marks her highest-scoring game since last season at the University of Las Vegas with 20.
Junior Brooke Slusser set Fleming up for a ferocious spike off an attempting blocker for the final point of the match. This was her 22nd point in the match.
Winning the final set 25-19.
Junior Brooke Bryant also set a career-high with 10 kills for the Spartans. Her prior career high was nine kills against UC Riverside last season.
Both Fleming and Bryant played all four sets in the match.
The Spartans had gone extra points with the Gaels in the third set, which ultimately saw them lose 30-28.
The Bay Area squad had full control over the final set, owning a consistent lead over three points.
After much success, the team will go back on the road this week. SJSU women’s volleyball will be participating in the USF Challenge and facing its first opponent, the University of San Francisco, on Thursday at 4 p.m.
