The Spear extends our heartfelt condolences for the loss of Kathryn “Katie” Hoedt, who spent nearly two years as part of The Spear team.
Her time with us, from joining Spear in fall 2018 to her impactful role during the pandemic assisting our journalism outlets, including The Spartan Daily and Access Magazine will forever be cherished.
Her design leadership on The Spear, particularly for the iconic 50th-anniversary edition and her involvement in 17 consecutive Spear magazines between fall 2018 and summer 2020, exemplified her dedication, determination and passion for illustration, production and storytelling.
Her laugh and vibrant presence, filled with love and energy, brightened our days and nights in magazine and editor meetings. Our deepest and most sincere thoughts are with Katie and her family during this incomprehensible time.
May the memories live on forever. We miss her dearly.
