SJSU women’s tennis (7-10 overall, 2-4 MW) surrendered to Nevada (7-7 overall, 2-4 MW) 4-0. The Spartans have further extended its losing streak to a prominent four losses and have been defeated by an additional conference opponent.
The team lost the doubles point to a close tiebreaker match (6-7) featuring junior Carolina Millan and fifth-year Alba Pedrero Galindo. Although the point slipped away from their grasp, the pair have three doubles wins together.
Junior Irena Muradyan and senior Rozalina Youseva put on a stellar performance in the doubles match, winning 6-3. They boast an 8-5 record together, which is the best doubles record on the team.
Singles matches were a quick disappointment with Muradyan, junior Raquel Pereira, and senior Lara Marco Mas losing early on. The team has struggled with singles lately with four players dealing with losing streaks.
The Spartans have had a tough time with their conference matchups. The team started off 2-0 against both Utah State and Boise State. But everything started going south once the team hopped off the plane at Fort Collins, Colo., where they were defeated by Wyoming and Colorado State.
After yet another loss, the team will have only four more chances to recollect itself before the Mountain West Conference in Las Vegas on April 26.
Next weekend, SJSU women’s tennis will celebrate a special occasion at home against Air Force. After the game on April 15, the team will honor graduating seniors Lara Marco Mas and Pedrero Galindo.
