SJSU finishes round one 13-over

The men’s Mountain West conference tournament got underway yesterday morning in Tucson, Ariz. and San Jose State has found themselves stuck in a sand trap after round number one.

In a tournament that involves a total of 11 teams the Spartans finished in dead last. Boise State and San Diego State tied for first place shooting nine under par 279, and three teams finished tied for eighth place.

As a team SJSU ended the day with a total score of 13 over-par 301 and no player was able to shoot under par.

Sophomore Kevin Velo was the team’s leading scorer after finishing round one at one over par 73 tying him for 26th overall in the tournament. While junior Scott Munger scored second best for SJSU at three above par 75 and tied for 39th overall.

If the Spartans want to get back into the middle of this tournament they will need the help of the remainder of the team.

Juniors Henrik Sohlberg who concluded his day eight over-par 80, Matthew Ashley five over-par 77, and Sean Talmadge at four over-par 76 all need to find a way to get back on.

The second round of the tournament is currently underway.
