After a week and a half break, SJSU women’s tennis (4-5) swept Santa Clara (0-7) with a fierce 4-0 dub.

The team acquired its first doubles point since its match on Feb. 10 against Cal State Fullerton.

Senior Lara Marco Mas and junior Jovana Babic finished first in doubles, leaving Santa Clara unresponsive (6-0). Although this is their first doubles match together this season, Marco Mas tallied yet another doubles win and now boasts 10 total wins with different partners.

Junior Carolina Millan and fifth-year Alba Pedrero Galindo won their second doubles match in a row (6-4). This marks their second match as partners in the season. They clutched the much-needed doubles point and set up the momentum necessary for singles matches.

Marco Mas was a continuous force to be reckoned with. She finished first in singles (6-2, 6-1) and now has a 7-5 overall record when it comes to singles. Her win gave SJSU an early 2-0 lead.

Later in the match, senior Rozalina Youseva kept up with the winning streak and won her match second (6-1, 6-4). She now has a 9-4 singles record and trails right behind junior Irena Muradyan‘s 10-4 leading record. The Spartans were now up 3-0.

At SJSU’s nail-biting match against GCU, the match’s outcome relied on Pedrero Galindo. Today, Pedrero Galindo had full control of the game and clinched the game-winning point for the team. She completed the game (6-3, 6-4) and leveled off her singles record to 6-6.

After two back-to-back losses against GCU and Cal Poly, today’s 4-0 sweep was vital for the team’s success. In about two weeks, SJSU will be facing its first Mountain West teams in Utah State and Boise State later in the month.

But for now, the team will have to redirect its focus to USF (4-5). SJSU women’s tennis will face the Dons on Mar. 14 at home.
