Amid MPSF conference play, SJSU gymnastics (5-1, 4-0 MPSF) sit as the top team heading into Sacramento State (2-7, 1-4 MPSF) this Friday.

For the second consecutive season, SJSU is dominating conference play under Coach Joanne Bowers’ leadership. The Spartan’s depth has come up huge for them in their victories, as anyone is liable to put on a show.

In their most recent contest against Air Force, SJSU dominated with multiple Spartans finishing at the top of every event to end the night with a final score of 195.800-193.275.

Spartans’ junior Lauren Macpherson scored a career-high all-around score of 39.375, earning her a career 7th MPSF player of the week honor (3rd on the season).

However, teammates Emma Milne and Alexa Solomon showed up big too, sharing a 3-way tie with Macpherson as they all scored 9.900 on the bars to help the Spartans keep their streak going.

After taking down Air Force, SJSU’s Milne leads the team with 6-first place finishes, followed by Jada Mazury with 5.

Additionally, junior Jaudai Lopes leads the team in vault points with 49.200 while being 2nd with 49.075 points in her floor routines for the season.

Going Into Friday’s Match-up

In contrast, Sac State is on a 3-game losing streak which began at their tri-meet at SJSU where the Spartans outdueled the Hornets and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, with their most recent loss coming at the hands of UC Davis this past Sunday of a final of 196.750-194.625.

But with all things considered, the Hornets roster consists of 12 players that are either sophomores or freshmen.

Despite their record, the Hornets freshman Sarah Lutrel leads the team in total points notching 231.900 on the season, with redshirt sophomore Emma Morgenthaler racking up 231.400 points.

The Spartans look to continue their streak going as they head up to Sacramento State this Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
