San Jose State women’s basketball (2-15, 0-6 MW) stumbled late in a 64-48 loss to Wyoming (11-5, 4-1 MW) inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Cowgirls led 10-7 after the first quarter, despite committing six turnovers.

SJSU struggled offensively to start the game, shooting 3-13 in the opening period.

Sophomore forward Marisa Davis-Jones led the Spartans with four points off 2-5 shooting.

The Spartans shot a slightly better 5-14 in the second quarter, but the Cowgirls led 27-20 at the end of the first half.

Senior guard Jada Holland had a team-high seven points off 3-6 shooting at the intermssion.

SJSU did play stout defense and forced Wyoming to commit 12 turnovers in the first half.

Davis-Jones led the Spartans with nine points off an efficient 3-4 shooting in the third quarter, but they still trailed the Cowgirls 41-34. The rest of the Spartans shot a combined 1-6 from the field in the third.

Despite cutting the Wyoming lead to 44-42 with 6:32 left in the fourth quarter, SJSU continued to struggle offensively.

The Spartans shot 4-16 in the fourth quarter and went the last six minutes without a field goal.

Wyoming outscored SJSU 23-14 in the final period and prevailed 64-48.

Two SJSU women’s basketball players did end the game with double-digits in scoring.

Holland finished with a game-high 19 points off 7-15 shooting, while Davis-Jones provided 17 points off 6-14 shooting.

The rest of the Spartans shot for a combined 3-24 from the field.

“We missed so many shots, shooting 25 or 30% from the field is just not good enough. So it’s on me to figure out how to get the ball going through the basket consistently,” said head coach April Phillips.

SJSU women’s basketball now finds itself on a 7-game losing streak and faces Air Force next inside Clune Arena on Monday. The Spartans look to avenge their 77-64 loss to the Falcons from earlier this month.
