San Jose State volleyball (20-7, 14-3 MW) dominated Fresno State (7-22, 1-16 MW) on Thursday night by winning three sets to zero.
The win extends SJSU’s home win streak to a perfect 9-0 while also securing the No. 2 seed for next weeks Mountain West Tournament.
SJSU volleyball achieved 20 wins this season as they came back from its 1-1 road trip.
The blue-and-gold started the matchup with a 25-23 victory in the first set putting up .324 hits.
The Spartans finished the second set 25-21 while putting up five aces.
SJSU concluded the game by winning the final set 25-22
SJSU volleyball had an astounding 42 digs and three blocks while the Bulldogs put up 34 digs and 10 blocks.
The Spartans offensive advantage came from putting up 61 points, 49 kills and 47 assists.
Senior outside hitter Amethyst Harper had the most kills on the team with 13. She got on the board with one block and seven digs.
Fifth-year outside hitter Haylee Nelson led the Spartans with five aces while putting up 12 kills.
The Bulldogs never got a hold of junior middle blocker Jiana Lawson as she racked up two blocks and eight kills.
Junior setter Mia Schafer had 22 assists, only three behind Fresno State sophomore setter Brooke Cowie for the most in the match. Schafer also had eight digs.
Fifth-year libero Sarah Smevog led the team with 14 digs, crushing the Bulldogs’ relentless attempts at scoring points and put up four assists.
“I thought system wise we could’ve been a little cleaner, little sharper in a few different areas,” said SJSU head coach Trent Kersten.
SJSU volleyball will face off against San Diego State (9-19, 7-10 MW) in the final regular season game this Saturday at 2 p.m. in San Jose.
