San Jose State volleyball (15-4, 9-0 MW) defeated Nevada (10-10, 4-5 MW) 3-1 at home on Tuesday.
The win brings the Spartans win streak to nine games and lead the Mountain West conference. Their six games away from breaking the record of 14 consecutive wins set in 1999.
SJSU junior setter Mia Schafer made history today becoming the 13th Spartan to record 2000 assists in school history. Schafer also recorded her fifth double-double with 10 digs and ended the night with 24 assists.
The Spartans lost the first set 25-20 after Nevada’s sixth-year outside hitter Kayla Afoa recorded four kills.
With the Spartans fighting back to tie the game it didn’t let them being down affect its game. In the second set, SJSU bounced back by dominating the Wolf Pack 25-13 with senior outside hitter Amethyst Harper leading the charge with three kills.
SJSU led by 7 points and won the third set 25-18.
With the Spartans looking to finish off their opponents, they took an 6-1 lead. SJSU would win the fourth set 25-14.
“Not our sharpest first set, we need to start better but that being said overall we were good enough tonight” said SJSU head coach Trent Kersten.
SJSU volleyball hits the road for the next three games beginning on Thursday against UNLV at 6:30 p.m.
