San Jose State volleyball (12-4, 6-0 MW) extended its winning streak to six games on Saturday defeating Colorado State (12-5, 5-1 MW) three sets to two.
SJSU senior outside hitter Amethyst Harper led the team with 16 kills with a .191% kill rate.
The Spartans took an early lead 25-22 in the first set. In the second set, the Rams came back from a 13-10 deficit to jump ahead of the Spartans. This led to SJSU losing the set 25-19.
Despite losing the second set, SJSU bounced back with sophomore redshirt outside hitter Blaire Fleming leading the charge with back-to-back kills.
With a seven point lead midway through the third set, the Rams stood no chance of catching back up. The Spartans get their second point winning the set 25-17.
In the fourth set, both teams kept exchanging points to make this a close matchup towards the end.
The Rams managed to win the set thanks to junior outside hitter Kennedy Stanford leading the set with four kills.
In the fifth and final set, SJSU took the lead and never looked back taking a 15-12 victory (GIO’s NOTE: Change: “taking a 15-12 victory” To “The Spartans won the set 15-12.”) The final point came from an error by the Rams.
“Our response needs to continue to get better and need to be playing for the end of November,” said SJSU head coach Trent Kersten.
The Spartans now lead the Mountain West Conference at 6-0 and their overall record is 12-4.
SJSU volleyball is back at home Thursday at 6 p.m. against New Mexico.
