San Jose State volleyball (6-4, 0-0 MW) lost to USC (8-3, 0-0 PAC-12.), 3-0, in a game where the Spartans could not seem to stop the Trojan onslaught.

In the first set, the Spartans nearly made a tremendous comeback. SJSU was down 8-2 early in the set but it fought back and gained a 20-16 advantage.

Despite a resilient effort, SJSU quickly lost the lead due to a 5-0 run from USC. The Spartans lost the set, 25-21.

The next two sets were not quite as forgiving as the first. The Spartans lost the second set 25-15 and they could not seem to generate any points despite some quality looks.

SJSU lost the third and final set 25-21. USC senior outside hitter Skylar Fields was having her way against SJSU. She was the games kill leader with 16 kills on a whopping 36 attempts.

Redshirt sophomore Blaire Fleming was the kill leader for SJSU with 10 kills on .444% shooting. She continues to come through for her team, but it was not enough to fend off an aggressive USC team.

Although the Spartans lost, they got two much needed wins at the Trojan Challenge and still sit above .500 at 6-4.

SJSU volleyball plays San Diego State at the Peterson Gymnasium in San Diego, Calif. Thursday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
