San Jose State women’s golf attended the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional where it competed in three days of intense golfing. SJSU won the championship, battling its way up from fourth place to overtake Virginia in the final round.
San Jose State finished the first round tied for fourth after shooting a 10-over 294.
Natasha Andrea Oon led the Spartans, shooting a 1-under 70. After day one, she was tied for third place and only one shot behind first.
Lucia Lopez Ortega shot a 1-over 72 in the first round and was tied for fifth place.
Going into the second round, the Spartans had a little work to do if they wanted to snag the first-place title. After shooting even-par 284 in the second round, SJSU moved into second place.
Individually, Oon moved up to first place after shooting 2 under 69 in the second round. She had four birdies on the day, including one on hole 18 which was the hardest hole of the day.
Ortega moved into fourth place after shooting an even-par 71 in the second round.
The third and final round of the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional was the most exciting of all.
A birdie from Louisa Carlbom was a good way to start the day and the Spartans kept it rolling. After Ortega made par on hole 18, the Spartans held first place for the first time in the championship.
Oon made the winning putt and Spartans won the 2022 NCAA Division I Ann Arbor Regional Championship, earning their spot at nationals.
Oon finished at -6 with a final round 68 and held on to first place. Ortega finished tied for third place.
The NCAA National Championship starts on May 20 and will conclude on May 25 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
