In the second game of their Fresno road trip, San Jose State women’s tennis lost to Wyoming 4-1.
The Spartans struggled to fight off the volley from the Cowboys, losing the doubles point as they quickly got hogtied into an early deficit.
The rest of the rodeo was unfortunately more of the same for the Spartans. They tried to stay on the horse but the cowboys refused to give them a chance to breathe.
SJSU lost the first singles match before winning their first point, thanks to sophomore Raquel Villan Pereira winning her match in straight sets to bring the dual to 1-2.
After, the Spartans dropped the following two points that ultimately finished the dual. All three singles losses were dropped in straight sets.
A rare loss came from junior Rozalina Youseva. The Spartans usually count on her to bring home a singles point, as her spring singles record going into this dual was 8-2.
Unfortunately, the Spartans have been in a slump for the past month. The Spartans have only won one of their last eight games.
Head coach Chad Skorupka is surely looking to find a solution to help his team get back to winning form. Skorupka understands the formula for success, as he previously led the team to a MW championship last season and secured a national bid for the team.
Regardless of their struggles, this road trip is not the end all be all. There is still plenty of time left in their season to make adjustments.
The Spartans’ Fresno battles are not over quite yet. The team will travel back there next weekend for two conference duals against San Diego State and UNLV April 2-3.
