San Jose State’s (16-13, 2-4 MW) three-game road trip to the Centinal state ended in disappointment after suffering a 6-5 loss to Colorado State (11-16, 3-3 MW).

The Rams wasted no time setting the tone for the match early as they managed to put up four runs in the first inning taking advantage of sloppy fielding by the Spartans.

SJSU managed to limit the damage to only four runs but failed to get on the board themselves in the first inning.

The offensive flurry from the Rams would go unanswered until the third inning when senior pitcher Jenessa Ullegue unloaded a solo homer to get the Spartans on the board.

Despite the run, Colorado did not fold, holding SJSU scoreless for three straight innings while adding two more runs making it a 6-1 game going into the final inning.

The Spartans had one more shot to swing the momentum in their favor with their backs against the wall, they did just that, setting up a bases-loaded situation for the team’s top slugger this season.

Senior third baseman Alyssa Graham stepped up to the plate, loaded with a chance to bring her team back, and delivered, sending a moonshot to right field to put SJSU within one.

The job was not finished, however, as the Spartans needed one more run to send the game to extra innings. Despite a valiant final effort from SJSU, the Rams tapped into their earlier defensive tenacity to close the game out.

This loss marks the third loss in a row for the Spartans before they return back to sunny California to prepare for their next conference matchup against Fresno State.

SJSU will look to snap its losing streak against Saint Mary’s University on Wednesday. The opening pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. in Morgana, CA.
