San Jose State has let go of women’s basketball head coach Jamie Craighead Turner after nine seasons with the program.
The news, which was announced Friday by athletic director Jeff Konya, comes shortly after the end of a disappointing season where the Spartans finished 5-25 and had a 2-16 record against conference opponents.
During her time coaching the Spartans, Craighead Turner took her squad to the semifinals of the Mountain West tournament on two separate occasions including the 2019-2020 season where the team finished with a 19-13 record.
Craighead Turner’s coaching extends beyond the hardwood as she has had nine players get nominated for conference postseason awards as well as numerous scholar-athlete awards under her guidance.
Craighead Turner ends her coaching stint at SJSU with an overall record of 89-160 (.357) and 54-93 (.367) in conference play.
With many seniors on the team leaving after this season, next season’s squad will be up in the air and could have an entirely new look by the start of next season.
Perhaps a fresh identity and a new coach could be the recipe for this team to turn the program around in hopes of establishing a new era for the program.
The university announced that it will begin its search for a new coach effective immediately.
