San Jose State women’s track and field placed seventh out of the eleven teams in the California Opener with a combined team score of 38 points Saturday.

Despite finishing in seventh place a second time in a row, the Spartans brought home multiple first, second and third-place finishes in their individual events.

Sophomore sprinter Sydney Bentley finished in second place in the second section of the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.43.

Bentley had recently set a personal and school record for the women’s 4×400 meter dash with a time of 3:45.16 in the previous meet.

Freshman sprinter Gabrielle Spencer won the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.50. Finishing two places behind them was sophomore distance runner Juliette Noyer with her time of 59.79, putting her in third place.

The Spartans did particularly well in jump events, with Spartan Lina Shubert winning first place in the high jump event with a distance of 1.71m.

In the long jump event, Jordan Patterson won first place with a distance of 5.49m. Jennifer Luong jumped a mark of 4.93m to finish behind in third place.

The Spartans are left with some breathing room as they can relax and prepare for their next meet in the Cardinal Classic in Stanford on Sunday March 19.
