San Jose State defeated UC San Diego 6-1 on the last day of the San Diego Classic thanks in part to a solid pitching effort from Katelyn Linford.
Linford tossed a complete game throwing seven strong innings with eight strikeouts, only six hits and one unearned run allowed. With the win, Linford now moves to 6-2 on the season.
The Spartans’ ace also kept much of the Tritons’ lineup in check as 12 players were held hitless all game.
After being run-ruled in the latter of two games yesterday the Spartans found their offensive spark in today’s outing.
SJSU scored all six of its runs in the first inning which ultimately proved to be enough to take the win. UC San Diego was unable to build up a comeback after the Spartans’ big first inning.
The Spartans’ offensive charge was lead by freshman shortstop Georgia Blair.
Blair’s offense had the deuces running wild. She finished the game with two hits including a double, two RBI’s, and two walks.
Contributing to the offense with multiple hits each were Emma Entzminger, Brittany Abacherli, and Casey Watt.
SJSU finished the weekend tournament with a record of three wins and two losses. They now move to 11-9 on the season.
San Jose State’s next game will be against the Pacific Tigers on Wednesday in Stockton at 3 p.m.
