There’s a new member of the San Jose State women’s basketball 1000 point club.
Senior forward Cydni Lewis achieved the elusive milestone in the Spartans’ loss to Air Force on Wednesday.
Lewis made history in style finishing with 17 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and four assists, racking up her fifth double-double of the season on her way to becoming the 18th player in history to achieve the feat.
Lewis spoke on what it was like to experience the moment on her home court.
“It definitely meant everything, especially being here for five years. I’m glad I got to reach such a big milestone,” said Lewis. “I just needed to stay in it for my team and keep attacking the basket and getting to the free-throw line.”
Lewis has shown tremendous value since joining the Spartans back in 2017. In her first stint with SJSU, she ranked first in blocks and third in rebounds among all freshmen in the Mountain West.
In her final season dawning the blue and gold, Lewis is currently averaging 12.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
Head coach Jamie Craighead, who coached Lewis for her entire career at SJSU, touched on her relationship with Lewis
“I remember what she was like as a freshman and sophomore,” said Craighead. “She’s developed so much as a player, a scoring threat in the last couple of seasons and I am very proud of her.”
