San Jose State men’s track and field came out ready to compete as all seven of the men who competed in the 200-meter dash recorded personal record times for the day.

The Don Kirby Elite Invitational track and field meet started its day right out of the blocks, as Spartan Mekhi Evans-Bey led the way for SJSU’s PR-filled day.

Finishing at a time of 21.76 (10), Evans-Bey set the tone for the rest of his fellow Spartan sprinters, securing a spot in the Top-10 in the 200 meters for the day.

With Nicholas Harper (14) and Bashar Barksdale (17) recording PR times of 21.85 and 21.98 respectively, the Spartans had three out of seven 200 meter contestants finish in the Top-20.

Harry Overstreet, Mikeal Tyler, Micah Hairston and Cecil Ebiwok all wanted to follow up with PR times as well, recording 22.17, 22.28, 22.39 and 22.83 respectively.

The Spartans would continue their success in the 400 meters as well, sprinting their way to three more Top-20 finishes. Nicholas Harper (6), Harry Overstreet (12) and Mikael Tyler (20) finished with times of 48.60, 49.23 and 49.76 respectively.

At the field events, Kyle Jankans sprung his way to a Top-5 finish in the high jump, ending his day with a jump of 6 feet-9.50 inches.

Bryson Smith (19) would wrap things up in the weight throw with a final measurement of 17.13 meters, good enough for a Top-20 finish on the day.

After a successful track and field meet, the Don Kirby Elite Invitational will pick up right where it left off tomorrow in Albuquerque.
