San Jose State drowned under the constant volley of shots at the UCLA Invitational Cup, losing to UCLA, USC and Fresno State by big margins.

SJSU went into the cup as the No. 11 seed playing first against UCLA seeded at No. 3 and lost 19-6 Friday evening.

In the first quarter of that game, SJSU scored zero points while UCLA got two.

The Spartans clawed back what goals they could, netting two points each in the next three quarters but it wasn’t enough.

SJSU goalie Elaina Davey threw a final shot in the last seconds of the game that ended up missing the net.

The Spartans followed up that loss with another one, losing 20-3 to No.1 USC.

The effort from the Spartans was there, with twenty attempted shots at the goal. SJSU pushed through, not calling a single timeout during the game.

In the last seconds, Spartan goalie Davey let fly with a shot that was blocked by USC player Erin Tharp.

SJSU rallied but still lost to No. 8 Fresno 15-9 on Saturday afternoon.

Cilla David netted three goals, with Lauren Woolley following up at two goals. Clarissa Wandinger, Riley Agerbeek and Olga Descalzi scored one goal each.

The women’s water polo team’s next game is at noon on Saturday, Feb. 12 at the SJSU SRAC.
