Home sweet home. Junior gymnast Jada Mazury had an impressive showing in San Jose State gymnastics’ first home event of the season against Sacramento State Jan. 30.
The Spartans avoided the Hornets’ sting as Mazury’s performance helped her team secure the victory 195.725-192.325. She won two event titles tying for first on vault with a 9.825 and bars with a 9.800 while finishing with a score of 39.250 to acquire her first all-around title of the season.
This nimble display earned Mazury her second Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week honor for the season. She earned her first after SJSU’s opening meet at the University of Denver Jan. 9.
In her first season of competition as an all-arounder, Mazury has proven any doubters wrong. She is currently holding the season high for all-around score in the MPSF conference, 39.350.
Mazury’s accomplishments have not been without merit. The phenomenal athlete helped her team achieve the second-highest team score in school history while simultaneously setting her own records in the season opener.
In a presentation of elegance that words cannot accurately describe Mazury set a career high 9.925 on the uneven bars, tied for second-best in SJSU history.
Only three meets into the season, Mazury has set high expectations for the rest of the year. She will look to improve upon her performances and perfect her craft to help her team on the road to nationals. SJSU currently sits at No. 37 in the national standings.
The audience will continue to gaze in anticipation of more “Mazury moments” as SJSU travels to face UC Davis Feb. 6.
