Spartans hope for redemption against Bulldogs

The San Jose State women’s basketball team (3-11, 0-3 MW) will be closing out its two-game face off with the Fresno State Bulldogs (6-8, 2-1 MW) Saturday afternoon in Fresno, Calif.

The Spartans are coming back from a devastating loss to the Bulldogs Thursday night by a score of 78-57 adding to their seven game losing streak this season.

Junior guard Ella Ogier led SJSU with 18 points and snagged five rebounds against FSU.

Senior forward Cydni Lewis had a troublesome game only managing to score five points and three blocks but came out on top with a team-high eight rebounds. Lewis definitely didn’t have the easiest game after only scoring two out of her 14 shots against the Bulldogs. This in comparison to her 12 points per game average is worrisome for the Spartans.

Fresno State has some key players to keep a close eye on and they just so happen to be twins.

Junior guards Haley and Hanna Cavinder are killing it in the MW making it hard for opponents to have an easy win.

During Thursday’s game against SJSU, Haley Cavinder recorded her eighth 20-point game of the season. Cavinder led her team with 23 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

Hanna Cavinder is another whirlwind of success as she scored in double figures for her 12th game while scoring 13 points and six assists against the Spartans.

For the Spartans’ sake, hopefully they have taken some key notes on the FSU Bulldogs and the tornado called the Cavinder twins to lead them to success in its last game against their rival team.

You can watch the Spartans go head-to-head against the Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. on the Mountain West Network.
