The San Jose State women’s volleyball team (15-7, 9-3 MW) will be going head-to-head with the Cowgirls from the University of Wyoming (13-11, 5-7 MW) once again Thursday night in Laramie, Wyoming.
This will be the second time both teams will be battling each other since Oct. 7 at the Spartan Gym.
The Cowgirls managed to defeat the Spartans in a five-set match in a 3-2 victory.
In that same match, UW kept SJSU on its toes, constantly gaining control of the lead during the match’s final moments which allowed the Cowgirls to secure the win.
Since then the Spartans have gained some attention in the Mountain West and are proving to be a formidable opponent.
SJSU’s recent intensity has shined through in their current six-game winning streak and should continue against UW tomorrow night.
In their last game against rival Fresno State, the Spartans remained victorious as they defeated the Bulldogs 3-2.
Freshman outside hitter Madeline Boestra came out on top with a season-best 22 kills with a season-high of 68 attempts.
Senior outside hitter Haylee Nelson managed to record 20 kills in the match, with 51 swings and only three errors. She also gained her sixth double-double with a season-high 17 digs.
Nelson was named the MW Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after leading SJSU to two wins last week.
She became the 16th player in Spartan history to have 1,000 kills in her career in her last game.
From a statistical standpoint, the Spartans and Cowgirls are practically neck-and-neck.
The Spartans have an average of 13 kills per set compared to the Cowgirls’ 12.7 per set, 989 assists v.s. Cowgirls’ 988 and 1216 digs v.s. Cowgirls’ 1154.
If SJSU can continue their outstanding teamwork and intensity they will remain victorious and should have no issue bringing back another victory to Silicon Valley.
You can watch the showdown between the Spartans and Cowgirls on the Mountain West network Thursday night at 6:30 p.m MT.
