San Jose State women’s volleyball (12-7, 6-3 MW) will be hosting the Air Force Falcons (5-24, 2-7 MW) Saturday afternoon at the Spartan Gym.
The Spartans are coming back to Silicon Valley after demolishing the University of New Mexico Lobos (14-6, 5-4 MW) in a five set match 3-2.
The game would go back and forth for the first three sets but UNM could not handle the heat SJSU was giving by the end of the night.
During the fourth set the Spartans brought the spear right through the Lobos and continued their momentum in the fifth set leaving them victorious, 26-24,15-12.
Senior outside hitter Haylee Nelson led the night with 18 kills while also adding 5 digs, 2 blocks and a service ace to her record.
Nelson is 23 kills shy from her record of 1,000 kills in her Spartan career. Once completed she will become the 16th player in SJSU history with a career of 1,000 kills.
Junior outside hitter Alyssa Sugai and middle blocker Ryann Thomison managed to assist each other with a final block securing the win for the Spartans in the fifth set.
Thomison ended the night with a career best of 16 kills, a season high of eight blocks and seven assists.
SJSU should have no problem continuing their three win streak against the Air Force Falcons.
The Falcons have just managed to end their six game losing streak against the University of Nevada (3-17, 0-9 MW) Thursday night 3-0.
SJSU definitely has the upper hand especially statistically when it comes to AF.
The Spartans’ have 886 kills compared to the Falcon’s 778 kills, 829 assists compared to Falcon’s 703 assists, and lastly 133 aces compared to Falcon’s 84 aces.
As long as the Spartans can continue their team-work and energy there should be no reason why they can’t roast the Falcons.
San Jose State will face off the Air Force in the Spartan Gym at Yosh Uchida Hall or on the Mountain West Network at 1 p.m.
