SJSU men’s water polo (7-8) took down UC San Diego (9-5) in a thrilling matinee, 14-13.
The win for the Spartans was their third in a row, which qualifies as their first winning streak of the season.
As for the Tritons, it’s their first loss since Friday, in which they fell to UC Davis in overtime.
It was a well-rounded victory for the Spartans, as nine players contributed offensively and provided SJSU with 14 points.
Spartans’ freshman Bende Pardi dominated the waters today, scoring four points on seven shots, as well as contributing defensively with a steal.
On the other hand, Tritons’ redshirt junior Vedran Latkovic scored six points on seven shots, with one of those shots tying the match 12-12 late in the fourth period.
While the Spartans were able to hang on for the win, UCSD pushed SJSU defense to the brink.
Spartans’ senior goalkeeper Yahav Fire had 12 saves in the game, including a steal of his own.
Fire was a wall for the Spartans, as the Tritons tossed up 29 shots and landed 13, they finished with a shot percentage of .448.
It was no different for SJSU though, they put up a whopping 37 shots in the win but hit the back of the net only 14 times which was good for a .378 shot percentage.
The Spartans will look to keep their winning streak going next Saturday, October 4 against UCLA in Los Angeles.
