WBB: Basallo committing to ASU

By Jarra Gojolo — Managing Editor

Former San Jose State women’s basketball player Ayzhiana Basallo has committed to Arizona State, the guard announced through Instagram on Monday.

She averaged 18.5 points game in the 2019-20 season, making 45.4 percent of her three-pointers and 92.5 percent of her free throws in her only full season as a Spartan.

Basallo’s Mountain West Newcomer of the Year performance that season was a big reason for the Spartans 19-12 record, their best in four decades.

The 5-foot-5 guard only played two games in SJSU’s shortened 2020-21 season before tearing her ACL against Utah State on Dec. 21.

She is arguably the most notable of the team’s departures this offseason. Also announcing they’re leaving San Jose this offseason is forward Tyra Whitehead and guards Raziya Potter, Danae Marquez and Shaila Mays
