Spartans look to break a three game losing streak against Santa Clara

San Jose State men’s water polo will have its first game against Santa Clara University this Sunday.

The Spartans have had a rough start this season, having dropped two games to Pepperdine (13-10, 17-10) and one to Loyola Marymount (15-6).

SJSU looks to break its three-game losing streak tomorrow against SCU.

Spartans can expect senior center Finn Pardon and 2-meter defender Niels Hofmeijer to help carry them through these next games.

Pardon and Hofmeijer are SJSU’s highest scorers and have played exceptionally well thus far despite the losing streak.

Pardon and Hofmeijer have scored a combined total of 18 points, nine points each, in the past three games.

Pardon carried the Spartans’ first game against Pepperdine accounting for five of the Spartans’ 10 total points.

Similarly, Hofmeijer scored five points out of SJSU’s 10 points in its second game against Pepperdine.

The story so far for the Spartans is early success but game-changing struggles in the later stages.

SJSU will need to keep up their early offense into the mid-late game and provide better defense, something other teams have been much stronger at.

The game will kick off at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, with another game against SCU at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
