San Jose State men’s basketball team (1-1) lost to Saint Mary’s College (6-1) in Moraga on Friday, 96-61.

The Saint Mary’s offense started strong and extended its lead to double digits early. The Gaels would lead to as much as 30 in the first half.

Omari Moore and Richard Washington led the team with the most points. Moore scored 11 points and Washington scored 13 points before the end of the first half. Moore was the top scorer of the night earning 18 points for the game. While Washington scored 17 points with 34 minutes played.

San Jose State had a tough time scoring and only shot 28 percent for the game. They had four turnovers, 10 fouls and used two timeouts early to try to brainstorm their way back into the game.

The game was scheduled just days in advance. With new Santa Clara County guidelines and testing issues among SJSU’s opponents, the first three games of the season were canceled. The previous game was played against Fresno Pacific University in Santa Cruz and was their first game and first win.

The Spartans’ next game is in San Luis Obispo against Cal Poly on Sunday.
