By Gio Gaxiola — Reporter

Here are the scores, news and notes from the final week around the Mountain West.

Boise State (5-1, 5-0 MW) 17, Wyoming (2-4) 9

The Broncos were able to secure a spot in the Mountain West Championship with a convincing win over the Cowboys on Saturday. Boise State was led by sophomore quarterback Hank Bachmeier who threw for 181 yards one touchdown along with one interception. His favorite target was junior wide receiver Khalil Shakir who had eight catches for 105 yards. The lone bright spot for the Cowboys was freshman kicker John Hoyland who was perfect on all three of his field goal attempts. Wyoming’s season has ended while BSU will go on the road to face off against San Jose State in Las Vegas for the MW Championship.

BYU (10-1) 28, San Diego State (4-4, 4-2 MW) 14

The Cougars were able to bounce back from last week’s heartbreaking loss against Coastal Carolina by pounding the Aztecs for a total of 384 yards on Saturday. Junior quarterback Zach Wilson threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns two of which went to freshman tight end Issac Rex. SDSU’s junior running Kaegun Williams led the game in rush yards 92 yards to go along with his one touchdown on the day. BYU’s regular season is finished and will most likely play in a major bowl game while SDSU is on the outside looking in. While any team is bowl eligible this year, the Aztecs 4-4 record might throw a wrench in the teams bowl bid. It would be the first time in 10 years that SDSU would not play in a bowl game.

New Mexico (2-5) 49, Fresno State (3-3) 39

Junior running back Bobby Cole led a Lobos team that put up almost 50 points against the Bulldogs on Saturday. Cole ran for 138 yards and three touchdowns. Freshman running back Nathaniel Jones helped UNM with two touchdowns of his own. Bulldog’s junior quarterback Jake Haener threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns along with one interception. Sophomore wide receiver Jalen Cropper had 12 catches for 134 yards and one touchdown. With both teams having less than desirable records, this was the final game of the season for both teams.

Hawai’i (4-4) 38, UNLV (0-6) 21

The Rainbow Warriors’ sophomore quarterback Chevan Cordeiro ran for two touchdowns Saturday to end the season with a win over the winless Runnin’ Rebels. Senior running back Calvin Turner ran for 55 yards and one touchdown in what could be his final game in a Hawaii uniform. UNLV senior running back Charles Williams also had a nice day on the ground rushing for 148 yards and two touchdowns. UNLV season has come to an end while Hawaii will face off against the University of Houston in the New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 24.

San Jose State (6-0) 30, Nevada (6-2) 20

The Spartans were able to cap off a perfect regular season with a win against the Wolf Pack on Friday night. The winner of this game would clinch a spot in the MW championship. SJSU was led by senior running back Tyler Nevens who rushed for 184 yards and one touchdown his second straight game with over 100 rushing yards. Junior defensive lineman Cade Hall was a force up front for the Spartans with two and half sacks . Wolf Pack sophomore quarterback Carson Strong played a clean game throwing for 260 yards and one touchdown. SJSU will stay at it’s temporary home of Las Vegas and play host to Boise State in the MW Championship on Saturday.Nevada will play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 22 against Tulane.
