San Jose State’s NCAA 21 ratings — if NCAA 21 was a thing

By Gio Gaxiola — Reporter

It has been seven years since the last NCAA football video game released. Many fans have been craving for a new one to come out, but the NCAA could not strike a new license deal with EA Sports.

With no deal in sight, fans may never get another NCAA game again.

This has left college football fans, including fans of San Jose State football, to wonder what their favorite team ratings would look like now.

A lot has changed in the college football landscape in the last seven years.

In NCAA 14, SJSU was a 77 overall, with a rating of 81 on offense and 76 on defense. The team’s best player was 89-rated QB No. 10, which was EA Sports’ version of David Fales. Since the NCAA did not want to pay the players for using their likeness in the game, they could only use their position and jersey number for their names.

On defense, ROLB No. 31 had the best rating at 84. That of course was Keith Smith, now a fullback for the Atlanta Falcons.

With SJSU’s hot start to the 2020 season, the team’s rating has to be a better one than they received in the last game.

They would most likely have a rating of 88 overall. With a rating of 89 on offense and 87 on defense.

Wide receiver Tre Walker would have the best player rating on the team. He would have a rating of 97 overall, with his best stat being catching at 98. The senior would be the second fastest player on the team behind fellow receiver Bailey Gaither, who would have 99 speed.

Quarterback Nick Starkel would have a respectable rating of 92 overall. Due to his experience against SEC schools, it would put him at a higher rating than Fales.

In NCAA 14, only one player on the SJSU offensive line had a rating above 80. In NCAA 21 all of the SJSU o-line would be above a 85 overall.

On defense, linebacker Kyle Harmon leads the way with a 94 overall rating. Having 14 tackles in three straight games is the main reason why Harmon has a high rating. Safety Tre Jenkins leads the team with two interceptions this year, giving him a rating of 88 overall.

Cade Hall, who leads the team with 2.5 sacks on the year, would be the best defensive lineman at 92 overall.

It is always fun to play a what if scenario. Although SJSU would have no chance in the video game against a team with a 99 overall rating like Clemson or Ohio State, the team would be a blast to play. If there’s ever another NCAA game, be sure to look at SJSU to be one of the top teams to play with from the Mountain West.
