No. 13 San Jose State women’s water polo traveled south to No. 3 UCLA for an evening game at Spieker Aquatic Center, but fell 18-10.

In the first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference game for SJSU (3-5, 0-1 MPSF) and UCLA (9-1, 1-0 MPSF), both teams started the game on a team mission with rapid scoring.

A quick exclusion was drawn on SJSU which led UCLA to score 30 seconds into play.

On an aggressive power play, the Bruins scored again.

Spartan junior 2-meter defender Isabella Schmidt threw one in the back of the net and got the team up on the board.

Junior driver Lili Urvari scored back-to-back goals within seconds of one another giving SJSU the lead.

The Bruins and Spartans tussled points back and forth, ending the first quarter even at 4.

SJSU utility Riley Agerbeek’s two goals helped the team stay in the game during the second period.

An exclusion was taken on a Bruin player and Spartan 2-meter defender Tyanna Supreme hit the back of the net putting one up for SJSU.

UCLA’s three goals helped them gain the lead ending the second quarter 8-7.

The Bruins flipped a switch returning to the pool with fuel in their fire and sophomore utility player Katrina Drake was on a goal scoring roll.

Urvari went on to score again assisted by sophomore utility player Clarissa Wandinger.

UCLA executed two more goals, which put the team further ahead ending the third quarter 12-8.

The Bruins never looked back, outscoring SJSU 6-2 in the final frame.

SJSU will remain in Los Angeles for the UCLA Invitational beginning Saturday morning for back-to-back games.
