Fire reaches double-digit saves again in loss to Wave

San Jose State men’s water polo continued to break in the new Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center’s water, despite a 10-9 loss to No.7 Pepperdine.

After a back-and-forth battle, Pepperdine (15-5) attacker Max Spute’s goal with just under four minutes to play put the Spartans'(3-11) hopes out of reach.

On SJSU’s side of the pool, senior Marc Weber tied a career-high with three goals, two better than any other teammate.

For the 10th time this season, sophomore goalkeeper Yahav Fire eclipsed double-digit saves in a game, with 13 versus the Wave.

Four goals sparked the Spartans’ third period, but failed to capitalize when it mattered most with just one goal in the final period.

Up next for the Spartans is an afternoon match at Long Beach State on Saturday.
