San Jose State softball (27-13, 7-4 MW) left the field with three unanswered runs from rival San Diego State (18-22, 6-8 MW) and dropped the final game of the series, 3-0.
The Spartans were able to hold the Aztecs in the first two innings of the game. However, SDSU was able to score two of its three runs in the third inning.
SDSU made it 1-0 on a fielding error by senior catcher Alyssa Avila. It then plated an unearned run on a single from redshirt junior Kiera Wright.
The Aztecs were able to increase their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth with another RBI from sophomore infielder Kelsey Munoz.
The Spartans couldn’t get their bats going to close in on the game. Freshman Jenessa Ullegue led the offense with two of the team’s three hits.
She was taken out during the bottom of the fourth inning and replaced by sophomore pitcher Caroline Bowman.
Bowman kept the Aztecs quiet and only allowed two hits.
The Spartans will head over to Sin City to play a conference series with UNLV starting Thursday at 6 p.m.
