San Jose State softball (16-9) earned a win against the University of the Pacific (11-13) Saturday afternoon, the third day of the Spartan Invitational tournament, 5-4.
The Spartans and the Tigers were scoreless after the first inning.
SJSU struck first with freshman pitcher Jenessa Ullegue hitting a home run in the bottom of the second inning, giving the team a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, senior catcher Alyssa Avila singled through the left side. She advanced to second on a throwing error that drove in junior outfielder Kaelin Amerin and senior infielder Rayohna Sagapolu.
Spartan sophomore pitcher Caroline Bowman led UOP freshman utility player Jessica Mabrey to score a double off her pitch advancing junior infielder Hailey Reed and freshman utility Carly Luchetti to home.
Minutes later, Mabrey scored a run for the Tigers.
Sagapolu singled down the right field line advancing junior infielder Mackenzie Drake to third that drove freshman infielder Arianna Miranda to score.
Ullegue led the Spartans with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth leading in junior infielder Mackenzie Drake with the final score for SJSU, 5-4.
Arriving for SJSU’s offense, Avila and Ullegue had 2 RBI’s a piece and Sagapolu with one RBI.
The Spartans take on Iona college on its final day for the Spartan Invitational on Sunday morning.
