San Jose State men’s golf had its best finish of the year as it concluded the Bandon Dunes Invitational tied for third place.

The Spartans tied Ohio State with a score of 884 on the par-72 course.

Senior Kevin Velo had his best performance of the year and placed second with a three-under par 213. Over the three days, Velo shot 72-71-70 and trailed Utah’s Blake Tomlinson by one stroke.

Sophomores Bryce Wortman and Matt Heitel assisted the SJSU’s performance and tied for 24th and 36th, respectively.

Wortman finished the invitational strong with a 223, while Heitel posted an even par 72 that would bring his total to 225.

Senior Ben Campbell withdrew from the tournament due to a sustained injury after 11 holes on the final day.

The Spartans have had a strong start to their season. They have been keeping up with nationally ranked teams and continue to show that they can compete despite facing adversity.

SJSU will travel to Eugene as it’ll compete in the Oregon Duck Invitational on March 25 and 26.
