San Jose State gymnastics was a long way from home taking the victory at its meet against Southeast Missouri State.
It was a nice confidence booster as the team won by over three points. The wide gap was a surprise because Southeast Missouri State took first place in the second half of the events.
Junior Taylor Chan continues to perform more and more first place routines with every meet. She took first in the events of floor, bars and the all-around.
Senior Stephanie Relova is usually the Spartan top finisher on bars. Even though she didn’t take the top placement, she was able to record a season-best score of 9.800.
Freshman Carli Orcutt has been making her mark in every meet as well. Orcutt competed on vault, bars and floor, receiving over a 9.700 in all three events.
The floor event was dominated by the Spartans as they recorded a season-best score of 48.825, a whole point above what they got at last week’s meet.
This was SJSU’s first dual meet and it proved to be a great success for the team.
It is clear that the Spartans are working to improve and clean their routines every week. The events that are strong are still getting the same level of success, while the weaker events are improving scores as well.
Even with senior Ellie Pascoe-Long currently out on an injury from last week’s meet, the team was able to step it up to get the win.
The Spartans have one more week before they make their home meet debut against Air Force, Alaska Anchorage and Seattle Pacific on January 25th.
