San Jose State women’s basketball continues to struggle on the court after losing 80-51 to Portland State Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans (0-3) could only score 7 points in the first quarter while the Vikings (2-0) ran away with it and took an early 28-7 lead.

Because of an early-game large deficit, SJSU was unable to fight back for the win.

After scoring only 11 points through the first half, SJSU picked itself up and ended up scoring 40 points in the second half to try to pull the win within reach.

In the first three games of the season, the Spartans haven’t had a game with less than 25 turnovers, which has harmed their chances of winning. In today’s game, they finished with 27 turnovers.

Sophomore forward Mikaylah Wilson led the Spartans with 14 points and tied for highest with 5 rebounds along with junior guard Analyss Benally.

In the third quarter, the Spartans outscored the Vikings 23-19 to pull themselves within 27 points of them, but Portland ended up running away with the lead in the fourth.

With almost three minutes left in the game, SJSU failed to score and let the Vikings take home a 80-51 victory.

Portland State senior guard Ashley Bolston finished the game with 21 points and 5 rebounds.

Looking to end their scoreless start to the season, the Spartans welcome Cal State Bakersfield to the Event Center on Saturday.
