San Jose State’s volleyball (8-9, 3-5 MW) team headed up to Colorado and defeated Air Force Academy (12-8, 2-4) in a heated 3-2 match.
Senior libero Luiza Andrade got a total of 17 digs and now holds the second highest rank on SJSU’s career dig list.
No surprise that the Spartans started out strong coming off their winning momentum from Tuesday. The Falcons came close, but the Spartans came out on top in the first two sets.
Air Force was not ready to give up the match as it came back with a 25-21 victory in the third set.
It was evident that SJSU was starting to gas out as it tried its best to keep up with the Falcons.
The Spartans went on a five point scoring run towards the end of the fourth set, but it was not enough to get the win as they lost 25-18.
The Falcons were on fire going into the final set. The Spartans gave up three points before Falcon outside hitter Elizabeth Pennington broke the tempo on an attack error.
From there, the Spartans racked up points quickly.
It was a nail bitter towards the end with only a two-point Spartan lead. Senior Giulia Gávio secured the winning kill that defeated the Falcons 15-12.
The weekly wins are owed solely to the consistency of the team.
Sophomore Latahevai Lousi led the match with a total of 16 kills, while also being the match’s leader in attacks. Her teammate Ryann Thomison led the squad with six blocks.
The talent in the seniors is there and as the season goes on, it’s clear that it’s spreading down to the younger players.
SJSU will take on San Diego State on Thursday in the Spartan Gym.
