San Jose State’s women’s swimming and diving was defeated 168-131 against the Fresno State Bulldogs (6-4) on Saturday, dropping its dual meet record to 5-4.
Although the Spartan’s lost, their individual victories shined through in many of the events, as the women left the meet with seven of 16 first-place finishes.
“I am happy with out overall performance today,” said head coach Sage Hopkins in a postgame interview to San Jose State Athletics. “It was great to see our seniors perform so well in our final dual meet.”
Spartan seniors Cari Reiswig, Colleen Humel, Kylie Fonseca and Brittany Hang were all honored during the Senior Day ceremonies before their final dual meet.
In the 100 freestyle, Spartans Katie McIntee, Brittany Heng and Gabby Heng took first through third, respectively. In total, McIntee took home three first-place finishes.
SJSU swept in the sprint freestyles and came out on top in both relays against Fresno State.
The 1000 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly proved difficult for the Spartans as they placed fifth in the first two and fourth in the butterfly.
The Spartans will advance to the Mountain West Championships and will head to San Antonio, Texas on Feb. 2nd.
