San Jose State women’s golf team finished round one in 12th place at the Stanford Intercollegiate on Friday at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.

The Spartans were off to a slow start at 13-over par, as no one placed near the top 10 overall, affecting where they finished as a team in the first round.

Senior Moa Andersson led the Spartans, tying for 26th overall at 1-over par. She recorded 3 birdies on holes 2, 5 and 12 and an eagle on hole 7.

Although a strong performance, the bogeys on holes 14 and 17 and double bogeys on holes 6 and 13 affected Andersson’s overall score.

Sophomore Kleopatra Kozakiewicz tied for 36th overall, shooting 2-over par with 1 birdie and 3 bogeys.

SJSU head coach Dana Dormann said the team did not perform at its best after having some time off but looks forward to improving in the upcoming rounds.

“We’ve had almost a month off and we were hoping to get off to a better start,” Dormann said.

Senior Tessa Kremser and sophomore Chelsie Chin tied for 60th overall at 5-over par. Kremser recorded 1 birdie and 3 bogeys, while Chin finished with 1 birdie, 4 bogeys and a double bogey.

Sophomore Regina Roldan tied for 87th overall at 9-over par, recording 9 bogeys.

The Spartans will continue play Saturday and Sunday at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
