After the grand opening of the new Spartan Golf Facility a few weeks ago, it has become clear that San Jose State is in the mix of making major changes to South Campus.
New full-time Athletic Director Marie Tuite, alongside university President Mary Papazian, has made it clear that the golf complex is only the beginning of bigger changes to come in the next few years.
“We are going to transform South Campus,” Tuite said.
During the golf opening ceremony on June 1, the plans were revealed for a new softball stadium and baseball diamond to be built adjacent to the new golf facility. The goal is to revitalize all the sports programs at San Jose State and allow for all athletes to be able to practice and play at school.
Many programs have dealt with finding places to practice and in the case of the softball team, a place to play home games.
It is still unclear when the renovations will begin for all of these new facilities, but it is known that change is coming—and coming fast.
According to Tuite, the new tennis facility is most likely going to be the first facility to break ground and hopefully by the end of the month we will have a clearer understanding of the timeline.
