Freshman Cheuk Ying Shek and senior Irena Muradyan paired up and went on a run for SJSU women’s tennis and took home the doubles title in the blue draw.

Shek and Muradyan defeated Jenna Gordan and Veliza Fileva from Santa Clara 6-3 in the championship round of the blue draw.

“We’re really proud of this week and of all the effort and teamwork that went into it'” said junior Olaya Bances Iglesias. “We’re really excited to see what happens next.”

Shek is having a very strong freshman season as she reached the final 16 at the ITA Regionals and she now has a doubles title to put under her belt.

While SJSU women’s tennis played very well in doubles, in the singles contest they did not shine as bright.

“We actually did not do that great on our singles,” senior Carolina Millan said. “But we had a lot of tight matches and we played really tough until the end.”

This was exemplified by freshman players Duru Durgun and Adriana Jimenez dominating their singles consolation matches.

Durgun won her match against Santa Claras Maria Antonova 6-0, 6-2 and Jimenez won her match against 6-3, 6-0 against Paulina Alvarez from the Academy of Art.

Durgun and Jimenez would also be second in the red draw for doubles.

This tournament concluded the slate of tournaments San Jose State women’s tennis was scheduled for this semester. The Spartans got to conclude it all by going out on a high note.
