SJSU women’s soccer notched its first win of the season, defeating Northeastern University 1-0 at Parsons Field in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Junior forward Bella Flocchini scored the Spartans’ lone goal of the match after cutting through the defense and striking the upper right corner of the goal.

Flocchini’s goal in the 47th minute was her second of the season, leading the Spartans early in their 2023 campaign.

“She’s going to be a handful this year,” said head coach Tina Estrada.

The Huskies (1-2-0, 0-0-0 CAA) had 18 shots compared to the Spartans (1-1-1, 0-0-0 MW) with 14.

“I’d like to generate a little bit more on the attack going forward,” said Estrada.

Each team had four shots on goal. San Jose State’s senior midfielder Sabrina Weinman, senior defender Evan House, senior midfielder Cynthia Flores and Flocchini each tallied one for the Spartans.

Sophomore goalkeeper Bente Pernot posted her first clean sheet this season with three saves. Pernot now has 20 saves through three games.

“Right now it’s about recovery and being prepared against a really good Boston College team,” said Estrada.

SJSU women’s soccer will remain on the East Coast for its match against Boston College at 9 a.m. on Sunday at Newton Campus Soccer Field.
