I’m thrilled to host and produce the “The Journey Through SJSU” podcast. Each episode will feature captivating and untold stories of San Jose State student-athletes and coaches. By clicking this link, you get a front-row seat for each twist, turn, tragedy and triumph that made them into who they’re today.
In the first episode, you’ll learn about Jennah Loggins, a senior forward on SJSU women’s soccer. Jennah and I first spoke back in June about her getting a summer internship at Adobe. At the time, I thought it would be a simple, feel-good, profile for print.
But then Jennah opened up about the struggles she endured as a new black student at a predominantly white school.
“There were times where I was probably crying in the bathroom, eating in the bathroom stall by myself,” she said.
While preparing to write the initial story I began to realize I couldn’t produce a sentence that aptly shows you the emotion that was in Jennah’s voice. Partially because when you read, you read it in your voice. In this case, I wanted you to hear what Jennah said in her voice.
So, that’s how we got to here:
And now there’s a story for you to listen to once every other Friday.
Just something to keep you company while walking your dog or commuting to work for about 15 minutes. My hope is that you’re engaged and actively listening. My goal, however, is that you’ll pause to reflect about how Jennah’s journey — or any other subject’s journey — relates to your journey.
Enjoy.
