The San Jose women’s tennis team won against Utah State, 4-1, to secure its second conference win of the season.
The day started with doubles early Friday morning and they were tightly contested. Irena Muradyan and Roazalina Youseva won their match, 7-5, which was the only doubles win for the Spartans.
Jovana Babic and Raquel Villan Pereira lost their doubles match, 7-5, despite having an early 4-1 lead. Alba Pedrero Galindo and Lara Marco Mas also lost their doubles match, 6-1, but the Spartans bounced back in singles.
Babic put on a dominant display in her singles match. After going down 1-0, Babic scored 12 unanswered to win both sets. After losing in doubles, she had no intentions of losing in singles.
Mas had to put in some extra work to win her singles match as it went into three sets. Mas lost the first set, 6-3, but won the next two sets, outscoring her opponent 12-3.
The Spartans won all their singles’ sets after having a rough start to the day. The Spartans have struggled away from home, but they were able to secure the much-needed victory.
San Jose State will play their final game of the season against Boise State Saturday at 2 p.m.
Next week, the Spartans will head to the Mountain West Championship in Tucson, Ariz.
