San Jose State’s women’s softball had a mixed record, winning one game and losing two at the Stanford Invitational this weekend.

In their first game on Saturday, SJSU lost to Seattle University 2-1.

For the first three innings neither team scored. Seattle put on the pressure by scoring runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

SJSU tried to come back in the sixth inning. The Spartans had two outs with the bases loaded, only for the next hit to be caught for the third out, ending the inning.

After Spartan Malia Luna grounded out to second base, SJSU’s Alyssa Graham took advantage to score in the seventh inning, but the Spartans ran out of time to do anything more.

SJSU came back from its loss earlier that day to beat the University of Illinois at Chicago 3-0.

The SJSU softball team came out swinging, scoring once in the first inning.

SJSU’s Aubrie Thomas sped from second base, past third and rounded home, taking advantage of a throwing error by UIC’s pitcher.

In the second inning, Ashley Gourd took advantage of an error by the catcher and scored.  Aneesa Almauger crossed home plate right behind her.

Both SJSU and UIC held firm, not allowing each other to score again until time ran out in the seventh inning, securing SJSU’s victory.

SJSU lost to Stanford 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans repeatedly struck out swinging and were unable to score a hit until the sixth inning, when Jillian Figueroa hit a single down the left field line.

In the final inning, Spartan Ashley Rico hit a double for the team’s second hit as Jules Ronquillo pinch ran onto second base.

SJSU managed a score in the seventh inning as Ronquillo successfully dashed past home base off of Jessica Giacoma’s ground out. Unfortunately for the Spartans, they ran out of time to catch up to the Cardinals.

The Spartans’ next games are at home on Feb. 25 – Feb. 27.
