After eight historic seasons with San Jose State Women’s soccer, the Lauren Hanson era has come to an unexpected end.
Jeff Konya, the director of athletics at San Jose State, announced that Hanson would be stepping down from her head coaching position in order to explore other endeavors.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity I have had to lead these amazing young women,” said Hanson. ”I am incredibly proud of the strong family culture the players and staff have worked so hard to establish throughout my career here.”
Hanson joined the Spartans back in 2014 racking up numerous accolades throughout her eight seasons as head coach, injecting a much-needed dose of life into the program.
During her time as head coach Hanson took her team to five Mountain West tournaments, captured two Mountain West championships, and was named Mountain West Coach of the Year twice.
Hanson also finished with an all-time record of 58-51-24 making her the winningest coach in program history.
Perhaps the biggest blow that could come from Hanson’s absence is her ability to help players breakout and improve. Under her leadership, Hanson was responsible for a jaw-dropping 27 All-Mountain West Team selections
Hanson leaves behind a young squad that ran into some struggles last season finishing 7-11-1 and missing out on the Mountain West Tournament.
With the regular season rapidly approaching the hunt for a new coach has now begun.
