The San Jose State men’s golf team headed to Colorado Springs, Colo. for the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at the Eisenhower Golf Club’s blue course.
Round 1
The Spartans came out of the gates swinging.
Junior Carl Corpus posted a score of 1-under 69 to lead all San Jose State men’s golfers in the first round.
Sophomore Kristopher Stiles and junior Caleb Shetler both shot 1-under 71.
San Jose State finished the first day in second place with a collective score of 283. Only UC Davis (279) had a better score going into the second round.
For the individuals, San Jose State senior Vijay Srinvasan finished the first day with 4-under 68.
San Jose State senior Matt Heitel also had an impressive showing in round 1 posting a score of 3-under 69.
Round 2
The Spartans stayed hot on the second day of the invite.
Shetler posted a score of 6-under 66 to set him up for his best finish as a Spartan.
Stiles stayed consistent in the second round posting another 1-under 71 to help the Spartans maintain their second-place status.
Srinvasan shot a 1-under 71 on his second round. This tied him with UC, Boulder freshman Jack Hughes for first place in individuals.
Also, San Jose State freshman Nick Watts shot par-72 in individual play.
Final Round
The third and final round of the invite did not bode well for the Spartans.
After holding a second-place position for the first two rounds, they ended in sixth place.
Collectively, they shot 11-over par.
All five golfers for the team posted their worst rounds of the event.
For individuals, Srinvasan was narrowly beaten out of the first-place finish by Hughes.
Overall, Srinvasan finished 6-under while Hughes finished 7-under.
Heitel finished in 16th place while no other Spartan cracked the top 25.
